On May 23 to 24, the Workshop on Quantum Information Technology was successfully held at Shanghai Institute of Microsystems and Information Technology (SIMIT), CAS. The two-day workshop, co-organized by SIMIT and JüLICH Research Center of Germany brought together dozens of researchers, graduate students from SIMIT and JüLICH, as well as from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Institute of Physics, CAS, ShanghaiTech University, and other research institutes. Prof. Yu Yuehui, deputy director of SIMIT, delivered a welcome speech. After that, Prof. Xie Xiaoming, deputy director of SIMIT and Professor Thomas Sch?pers, group leader of JüLICH Research Center, two co-chairmen of the workshop, introduced the research on quantum information technology at SIMIT and JüLICH respectively. Then, 26 researchers shared their research findings regarding topological quantum computing, quantum materials and devices, ultra-low power semiconductor devices, and superconductors and bioelectronics, and interacted with other participants. The workshop provided a good platform for the participants to enhance mutual understanding and discussed the future cooperation.

On the afternoon of May 23, Prof. Xie Xiaoming and Prof. Sebastian Schmidt, member of the Board of Directors of JüLICH, signed the agreement to extend the cooperation for another 3 years under the framework of the Virtual Joint Research Institute (VJRI) between SIMIT and JüLICH on Functional Materials and Electronics. Following that, two young researchers were presented with “Best PhD Thesis Awards” commemorating their active participation in joint research work and remarkable academic performance while completing their PhD theses. Later on, the Board of Directors’ annual meeting was held, reviewing the current situation of VJRI and discussing its future development.
