Time flies, years are like songs, Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology (SIMIT), Chinese Academy of Sciences has ushered in her 90th birthday. Ninety years ago, in July, the predecessor of the SIMIT, Engineering Research Institute of the National Central Research Institute of was established in Shanghai. At the time when modern Chinese scientific research was barren, the older generation of scientists represented by Director Zhou Ren had the heart of saving the country with science and industry, as well as the spirit of tireless, exploring, which laid a solid material foundation for today's SIMIT.
90 years have passed, SIMIT has participated in China's entire journey to march to modern science and technology. From metal, ceramics, iron and steel metallurgy research in the 1950s, to ultra-pure metals, magnetic and superconducting materials, semiconductor functional materials and devices, integrated circuits, etc., which began in the 1960s, In the 1980s three major research areas are micro-electronics, functional materials and devices, metal corrosion and protection. After the launch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Knowledge Innovation Project, SIMIT adjusted the subject area to two major focuses of electronic science and technology, information and communication engineering, and determined the development strategy of "systems lead devices and devices lead materials". During the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period, SIMIT further condensed the "One-Three-Five Plan" strategic aim. Under this guideline, SIMIT has achieved important results in areas such as metallurgical ceramics, metal corrosion and protection, semiconductor materials and devices, integrated circuits, microsatellites, and information communications. A series of outstanding scientific achievements such as Type A separation membrane, high-speed, ultra-high-speed two stage digital integrated circuit, and high-end silicon-based SOI materials R&D and industrialization, and semiconductor transport theory, etc., which made significant contributions to the national economic construction, national security, and society development.
After ten years of knowledge innovation projects and "Twelfth Five-Year Plan", today, we are more aware that only by facing the world's leading edge of science and technology, the country's major needs, and the national economy's main battlefield, combing the future of with national development and social progress, can SIMIT keeping exploring and generate endless innovation vitality.
