The 22nd International Conference on Ion Beam Modification of Materials, co-sponsored by GNS National Research Center of New Zealand, Australian National University and the University of Melbourne, was held in Wellington, the capital of New Zealand from Oct 30 to Nov 4. Experts and scholars from more than 20 countries and regions attended the academic conference. Academician Wang Xi of Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology (SIMIT) led the team to participate in the conference as a member of the International Committee of IBMM Conference. Ou Xin, Researcher of SIMIT, was invited to make a special report at the conference. Researcher Di Zengfeng, Researcher Zhang Miao and doctoral student Jia Qi made oral reports at the conference. And Researcher Ou Xin won the IBMM prize for his contribution to the research of ion beam and semiconductor materials.
IBMM prize was established in 2006 to recognize scholars who made outstanding contributions in the field of ion beam and material research. Every two years, 16 members of the International Committee of IBMM from 13 countries identify the only prize winner by nomination and voting. And the first four IBMM prizes were all obtained by scholars from famous universities and research institutions in Europe and the United States. Ou Xin is the first scholar from research institutes in Asian countries who won this special honor. This is also another important international award that he won in this research field after he received the "Youth Scholar Award" at International Conference on Ion Implantation Technology in Kyoto, Japan in 2010.
IBMM Conference is one of the most prestigious international academic conferences in the field of ion beam and material research, which is held every two years and has the history of nearly forty years. In addition, 24 Chinese scholars from Peking University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Shandong University, Lanzhou University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, China Academy of Engineering Physics, Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences and other domestic research units also participated in this conference.
