The State Key Laboratory of Functional Materials for Informatics was founded in 1991 with a loan from the world bank, and passed the national acceptance evaluation in June 1995, honored as Grade “A” laboratory in 1998. It was three times accredited as Grade “B” laboratory in 2003 , 2008 and 2013.  Strategically positioned at basic research for application and aligned to address essential challenges of the development of the research areas, the laboratory is targeted to meet the nation’s strategic demands and to promote academic advancements, with a special emphasis on training of highly-qualified people.  Focusing on many important research areas such as advanced silicon based semiconductors, devices and applications, compound semiconductors, devices and applications, novel nano-electronic materials, devices and solid state memory applications, superconductors, devices and superconducting electronics applications, the laboratory has made many prominent achievements in functional materials for informatics.  Having received many awards including the State Award (1st grade) for Science & Technology Progress, the laboratory has established its important position and good reputation both at home and abroad. Currently, the laboratory has 98 staff members, including 2 Academicians, 1 US Academician, 44 professors, 28 associate professors, and 13 support staffs.  Among the principle researchers, 2 people received national science fund for distinguished young scholars, 11 people were qualified for “hundred talents program” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 3 dissertations were awarded with “hundred excellent Ph.D thesis”.  The laboratory has already become an important base for research and education in the field of functional materials for informatics.
