Themed on “focus, fusion, breakthrough, win-win”, 2016 Jiading Shanghai Science and Technology Expo was staged at Shanghai Automobile Exhibition Center, Anting on the afternoon of September 26. This science and technology expo was jointly organized by 9 departments including Chinese Academy of Sciences Shanghai Branch, CPC Jiading District Committee, Jiading District Government and Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality. This science and technology expo will intensively display a number of scientific research results and cooperation projects, erect industry-university-research institute integration platforms, jointly discuss scientific and technological development of Jiading District and contribute to acceleration of the construction of Jiading as a major supporting district for science and technology innovation hub. Key Lab of Wireless Sensor Network and Communication, Chinese Academy of Sciences (“Key Lab”) was invited to participate in the exhibition, and its major exhibit was software-defined wireless network (this system comprises three parts, i.e., core network, soft base station and terminal), which uses software to realize all functions of traditional base station (hardware). In addition, this system can achieve up to 20M/s downlink data transmission rate on average. In addition, Key Lab’s exhibits also included a channel sounder used to verify parallel multi-channel detection. Because the equipment was hard to move, an introduction video was taken and presented at the expo. Dr. Xu Jing, deputy director of Key Lab, Dr. Wang Jiang, head of 5G Technology Department, and senior engineer Xu Haidong took part in this expo on behalf of Key Lab. During this expo, 5G communication booth (i.e., exhibition booth of Key Lab) in the smart city exhibition area got heightened attention of other exhibitors, media and audience. Software-defined wireless network attracted the attention of Mr. Zhu Zhiyuan, director of Chinese Academy of Sciences Shanghai Branch. In particular, the on-the-spot online cartoon watching realized via our software-defined wireless network arrested close attention of young children.
