1.    Superconducting Materials and Electronics Applications

Superconductivity is one of the most intriguing phenomena in physics.It has always been the research frontier in condensed matter physics.Superconductivity has significant applications in many areas such as green energy,health,informatics and natural resource exploration etc.Superconducting devices play indispensable roles in many high-end electronics applications due to its superior performance.Current major research includes:novel superconductor materials,superconducting sensors and superconducting electronics applications such as bio-magnetism,ultra low field NMR/MRI,geophysical exploration and single photon detection etc.

2.    Advanced SOI Materials and Devices

SOI is renowned as advanced silicon-based material for the nanotechnology era. SOI group has conducted the research of SOI technology for more than 30 years. It has incubated the sole SOI manufacturing base-Shanghai Simgui Technology Co. Ltd. in China, and received several national awards including the Prize of National Science & Technology Advancement (1st grade) etc. Currently, SOI group is devoted to develop advanced SOI-based materials and devices, especially in the area of: high mobility SOI materials, radiation tolerant SOI materials, and silicon photonics.

3.    Novel Nano-electronic Materials and Devices

Nano-electronic Materials and Devices Research Group was established in 2003, according to the national strategic plan and international nanotechnology developments in nanotechnology. High density, high speed, low power consumption, reliable, and high performance phase change memory, high purity nano abrasive and polishing are set as the main research directions. The team aims at developing PCRAM novel materials, chip design, process integration, testing technology and nano abrasive and CMP slurry with independent intellectual property rights, as well as setting up 12-inch PCRAM platform, developing a competitive PCRAM chip based on 40nm design rule and establishing technical database for quantity production, which will lay a foundation for the industrialization.

4.    Compound Semiconductor Materials、Devices and Applications

III-V compounds are semiconductor materials with strategic importance after silicon,covering significant microelectronic,optoelectronic and photonic applications from UV to THz bands.Current major research includes:MBE grown infrared quantum well and quantum cascade lasers,detectors and applications;microwave,millimeter/sub-millimeter wave materials and wide band gap substrate materials;Photonic crystals and meta materials, etc.
