The 5th Sino-German Workshop of Cooperation was held from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, 2013 in Jülich. In total, 54 people including 16 guests from SIMIT (Shanghai) attended the workshop. On the first day, the participants had the chance to visit the Open Day of Forschungszentrum Jülich. At this occasion, research fields and international projects as well as fascinating highlights were presented to the general public.

On the second day, the workshop was opened with a plenary session. Prof. Andreas Offenhäusser and Prof. Detlef Grützmacher presented highlights of the research in their institutes and gave an overview on the cooperation topics with SIMIT. In three parallel sessions, a total of 32 scientific talks were given, covering the fields of Superconductivity, Bioelectronics & Graphene, and Quantum materials and devices. The workshop was concluded with a tour of the Helmholtz Nanoelectronic Facility (HNF) where the clean room was shown, and open lab tours of the individual institutes.

During the conference dinner at “Dreiländereck”, Prof. Sebastian Schmidt (VS) presented the Helmholtz Fellow Award to Prof. Yuehui Yu (SIMIT). In a meeting of the steering committee, it was decided to continue and extend the cooperation further. The workshops inspired a variety of collaborative links between the partners, including exchange of students, visits of scientists and research managers, joint projects, patents, and publications.
