Prof. BAI Chunli visited Shanghai Zing Semiconductor Corporation
On May 14, Prof. BAI Chunli, president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences（CAS）, and Chairman of the Presidium of the Academic Divisions of CAS visited Shanghai Zing Semiconductor Corporation (ZINGSEMI), the collaborative innovation system of Shanghai Institution of Microsystem and Information technology (SIMIT). They visited the exhibition hall of ZINGSEMI and the 12-inch silicon wafer R & D production line. He had a conversation with relevant officials and technicians in the workshop, and understand in detail the 12-inch large silicon wafer manufacturing process, technology and its development.
At the meeting,WANG Xi, the director of SIMIT made a report, he elaborated the R&D development of SIMIT in IC field from three aspects: large size semiconductor silicon wafer, major breakthrough and the industrialization of advanced silicon based SOI material. In recent years, SIMIT and its collaborative innovation system focused on "More than Moore" technology innovation, superconducting digital circuits and superconducting computers, spin electrons, silicon-based photonic chips, IoT, MEMS sensor chips, the high reliability SOI chip and the “silicon chip Mega” led by NSIG, to accelerate the national IC technology and industry.
Prof. BAI spoke highly of the contributions made by SIMIT and ZINGSEMI to the development of national IC industry. He said that, the IC industry is the key part of ICT, meanwhile, it is also the strategic emerging industry that supports economic and social development and national security. SIMIT and its collaborative innovation system played a leading role in ICT.
Now, our national IC industry is facing with great challenges and opportunities. Prof. BAI suggests that SIMIT need to adhere to the guiding principle for a new area of pioneering research focused on national needs, and the demand of SHTIC, committed to achieving breakthrough developments in frontiers of science. He also demonstrated that, SIMIT should further focus on technology innovation, and strengthen the combination of S&T and industry, to make strategic plans. Furthermore, through complementary advantages of overall planning and policy, S&T, finance, as well as cultivating talent, SIMIT will make more contributions for national IC industry.
QIAO Junlu, director of the General Office of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, YU Yingjie, deputy director of the Bureau of Major R&D Programs Chinese Academy of Sciences, QU Ronghui, vice president of the Shanghai Branch, YU Yuehui, Party Committee secretary of SIMIT, and other relevant officials from CAS participated in the meeting.
